What are we doing in class tomorrow?

For March 19:  Please read "Along Racial and
Gender Lines: Jail Subcultures in the Midst of Racial
Disproportionality" (READER) by Leanne Fiftal Alarid

•        What is the author's thesis?  What is a “jail
subculture”?   What sorts of subcultures do you think
arise in the modern-day prison?  What problems do
you think these potentially cause?  What does the
author suggest as a solution to the problems discussed
in the article?

•        After reading this article, what questions do you
still have about racial and gender-based segregation in
prison settings?  

•        FILM

•        Looking Ahead to Monday:  What do you
think might be some issues prisoners encounter
upon release?

ANNOUNCEMENT:  Dr. Sue is looking for a few
CJUS majors to talk with students who will be
joining Trinity in the fall.  The new student "fair"
will take place on April 5th.  It will require only
about an hour of your time-- from about 3-4pm.  
Participating students will receive a groovy t-shirt
and some other CJ "bling"...
